A few days ago a 12 year old girl was arrested for selling weapons at her school in Tampa FL. This 12 year old girl was accused of selling stun guns at her school. It turns out that she bought five of these stun guns on Amazon and then she brought them to school and was selling them. She sold three of them and she got caught with two more.

Based on the article that I read it doesn't really sound like this young girl was trying to do something wrong. It didn't sound like she was trying to sell a weapon to be used to hurt somebody. Honestly, what I see from this is a young entrepreneur who saw a great opportunity to make a profit she just didn't understand that what she was doing was not being done in the right place or at the right age.

They Thought I Was Selling Drugs

When I was a kid, I was in middle school, I would go and buy candies and I would pay a penny for these candies and I would bring them to school and I would sell them for 10 cents, 50 cents during our breaks. So I got pulled into that principal's office being accused of selling drugs by the school resource officer because they saw me making these little transactions.

When they pulled me in they said, "We've got some reports that you may be selling drugs," and I said, "I'm not." So they opened up my backpack and they found a bunch of wads of cash and a lot of candy. They forced me to stop but I simply saw an opportunity to make some money.

You Must Talk To Your Children

This is a really great lesson for us parents of speaking to our children about what is acceptable at school and what is not. I talk to my kids a lot about bringing weapons to school. I talk to my children a lot about talking about weapons at school.

My children have pocket knives. When we go hiking in the woods they all like to bring their own little pocket knife, it just makes them feel tough or whatever but they enjoy it. And we are a gun family and I want my children to love and enjoy guns just as much as I do but it's also really critical that they understand that you have the conversation with your children that they are never allowed to bring weapons of any kind to school. It's important to explain to them why guns and weapons are not allowed to be at school but it's just as important to talk to your children about why they cannot talk about weapons at school.

Your children making a very basic comment at school could end in you the parent getting your firearm rights taken away for about a year. So it's important to really share stories just like this of this young girl bringing stun guns to school. Share it with your children, make sure they understand why this was wrong so that hopefully they don't repeat the same behavior.
