Can I carry a firearm into an amusement park with a Florida concealed carry permit?
Recently this has become a very common question I receive during Florida concealed carry courses.
Florida Statutes 790.12(a) provides us with a list of places we are not allowed to posses a firearm even with a valid Florida concealed weapons permit. Here's What it says;
15 Places You Cannot Concealed Carry (Florida Statutes 790.06 (12)(a))
Any place of nuisance;
Any police, sheriff or highway patrol station;
Any detention facility, prison or jail;
Any courthouse;
Any courtroom;
Any polling place;
Any meeting of the governing body of a county, public school district, municipality or special district;
Any meeting of the Legislature or a committee thereof;
Any school, college or professional athletic event not related to firearms;
Any elementary or secondary school facility or administration building;
Any career center;
Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion of the establishment is primarily devoted to such purpose
Any college or university facility, unless the licensee is a registered student, employee or faculty member of such college or university and the weapon is a stun gun or nonlethal electric weapon….
The inside of the passenger terminal and sterile area of any airport…
Any place where the carrying of firearms is prohibited by federal law.
If a Location is Not Prohibited it's Allowed
According to this Florida gun law it would be legal to carry a firearm into an amusement park, like Disney , SeaWorld and Busch Gardens, just to name a few.
This is because amusement parks are not listed as a prohibited place to conceal carry a firearm.I Carried a Gun For Years...
For years, I carried a firearm into amusement parks, that is until these parks required everyone to walk through a metal detector. However even though it is not illegal to bring a firearm into one of these locations, do you really wanna deal with getting caught by the security guards and all that kind of stuff?
If you're going to a location like this that has metal detectors, leave your gun in your car, don't attempt to go up to these security people, don't have an argument with them because it is not worth your time and your effort.Woman Arrested at Disney World
Recently a woman was walking into Disney World when she released, she had a firearm in her purse.
Instead of bringing the firearm back to her vehicle or hotel room this women decided to hide the gun behind a bush while she was in the park. Im not sure if her plan was to pick up the firearm at the end of the day or if she was abandoning the firearm for good.
What if a little kid found that gun?
What if a bad guy found the gun and then went and killed a bunch of people?
Thankfully a Disney employee saw the woman hide the firearm and they immediately confronted her.Conclusion
The lesson is please don't do dumb stuff like this, use your brain if you're going to a place with metal detectors, it's probably best to just leave the gun in the car and avoid the situation altogether.That's all I have for today. So until next time keep training and stay safe...
