Almost Murdered In Tampa...REAL STORY

January 06, 20224 min read

On December 3rd LaSawn was on her way home from work…

Everything about her drive seemed normal…

That is until she pulled up to a stop sign in Temple Terrence…

LaShawn noticed a man exit the bushes wearing a ski mask and gloves…

“The man was trying to get something out of his waistband, I thought it was a gun,” LaShawn said…

What is LaShawn legally allowed to do according to Florida Concealed Carry Law?

Let’s ask ourselves the big questions…

The Big Questions

How Could This Situation Have Been Avoided?

The best way to avoid a situation like this is to keep moving…

If I was at a stop sign or a red light and I noticed a strange man reaching for a gun…

I would get the HELL OUT OF THERE…

What Level Of Force Would You Use?

At this point, I don’t think using any level of force would be the right response. I think the best thing to do is get as far away as possible.

However, I only say this because LaShawn had a clear path to escape…

What if there was another vehicle in front of her at the stop sign…. She would be trapped…

Let’s see if this situation would meet the requirements of using a firearm in self-defense…

Does This Scenario Fall Under the Justifiable Use of Force statutes?

F.S. 776.012 (2) A person is justified in using or threatening to use deadly force if he or she reasonably believes that using or threatening to use such force is necessary to prevent imminent death or great bodily harm to himself or herself or another or to prevent the imminent commission of a forcible felony. A person who uses or threatens to use deadly force in accordance with this subsection does not have a duty to retreat and has the right to stand his or her ground if the person using or threatening to use the deadly force is not engaged in a criminal activity and is in a place where he or she has a right to be.

Is LaShawn or someone around her going to die within seconds?

If a strange man pulls out a gun then yes. Someone is about to die and hopefully its the bad guy…

Is LaShawn in fear of the imminent commission of a forcible felony?

Maybe, this could be a robber, carjacking or murder all of which are forcible felonies.

Is the use of deadly force reasonable?

Hell to the yes… Don’t start nothing… Won’t be nothing…

Is the use of deadly force necessary?

I think so but only if LaShawn truly believes the attacker is pulling out a firearm and intends to shoot her.

Is LaShawn in a place that she has a right to be?

Yes

Is LaShawn engaged in criminal activity?

To the best of my knowledge no

Where Is The Line In The Sand?

The line in the sand is the point at which you would have no other option but to pull out your firearm and shoot the threat.

My line in the sand would be if there was another vehicle preventing me from driving away…

I would immediately pull out my firearm and engage the threat…

What Would You Do If?

What would you do in this situation?

Do you carry your firearm 100% of the time you are legally allowed to?

When you driving are you aware of your surroundings enough that you would have noticed the attacker exit the bushes?

Do you have a high enough level of training with your firearm that you could pull it from concealment and engage the threat?

What would you do?

The Rest Of The Story

Thankfully LaShawn identified the potential threat and got the hell out of there…

The next day she received a knock on her front door…

It was a detective investigating a murder…

Apparently, the attacker shot and killed the next driver that pulled up to the stop sign…

The detective noticed LaShawn’s license plate in the area at the time of the shooting and wanted to see if she had witnessed anything…

Praise God that LaShawn is alive today because that was a close one…
